In a move he claims will address the ongoing political turmoil in Rivers State, President Bola Tinubu has appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as the Administrator to oversee the state’s affairs.
This appointment follows the declaration of a state of emergency in the State, which according to the president, aimed at restoring peace, order, and effective governance.
The president who made the declaration in a national broadcast evening of Tuesday March 18, 2025, said Vice Admiral Ibas, a former Chief of Naval Staff, will be responsible for managing the state’s affairs but will not have the authority to enact new laws.
Instead, he can formulate necessary regulations, which must be approved by the Federal Executive Council.
Ibas, a native of Nko in Cross River, served as Nigeria’s 22nd Chief of Naval Staff from 2015 to 2021 and had a distinguished career in the Nigerian Navy from 1979 until his retirement in 2021
