Four-day burial rites announced for Afenifere leader Ayo Adebanjo

The family of Chief Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo, revered nationalist and former Afenifere leader, has released details of a four-day burial programme to honour his legacy.

Pa Adebanjo, who passed away on February 14, 2025, at the age of 96, will be laid to rest in his hometown, Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu Ode, Ogun State. 

The family of Ayo Adebanjo, former factional leader of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, has announced his funeral arrangements.

The elder statesman died on February 14 at the age of 96.

In a statement on Thursday, April 24, 2025, his family said the funeral ceremonies, aims to celebrate his legacy of advocating for democracy, true federalism, and national unity, will commence with a day of tributes and service of songs on April 30 at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos.

The wake will follow on May 2 at Pa Ayo Adebanjo’s country home in Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

The main funeral service is scheduled for May 3 at St. Phillips Anglican Church in the same location, with a thanksgiving service to conclude the events on May 4.

The family has also made provisions for background materials and programme brochures, and they are open to pre-event briefings and interviews.
