Linda Stephen, a 37-year-old woman from Ungwan Sunday, Kaduna, has taken her plea for freedom to the Kaduna Customary Court, seeking a divorce from her husband, Felix Stephen, after six years of marriage.
The reason? Her husband’s overwhelming and relentless sexual demands.
In her petition, Mrs. Stephen revealed the torment she endures, stating that Felix often forces himself on her from midnight until the early hours of the morning, refusing to stop even when she is in tears.
She described how she can no longer bear his excessive sexual urges, which have pushed her to the brink.
Adding to her distress, she accused Felix of physical abuse, saying he beats her whenever she refuses his advances, even in the presence of their two children.
This unbearable situation led her to leave their home three months ago, despite repeated pleas from her husband’s relatives for her to return, she said.
“I urge the court to dissolve this marriage because I can’t stand his excessive sexual urge. He likes sex too much, and I can’t bear it.
“Most times, he would have sex with me from midnight till early hours of the morning. Even when I am crying, he will not stop.
“It has been three months since I moved out of his house, his relatives have been pleading with me to go back to him, but they do not know what I am facing,” she said.

In his defense, Felix Stephen expressed his love for his wife and promised the court he is willing to control his urges. He has also sought reconciliation, bringing family and friends to plead with Linda, but she remains firm in her decision.
He pleaded with the court to help him pacify her, and not to grant her wish.
“I took my uncles and friends to her parents house to plead with her. But she refused to listen to us instead she walked out on us,’’ Stephen said.
He further pleaded with the court to give him time to sort things out and reconcile with his wife.
The court, presided over by John Dauda, has adjourned the case until May 6, 2025, to allow time for reconciliation efforts, urging both parties to maintain peace in the meantime.
