Gateway International Airport: The Media Summit’s gateway to aviation excellence

After the 3rd Nigeria Media Leaders Summit in Abeokuta, hosted by the Journalism Clinic, the group of eminent publishers and media managers visited the ultramodern Gateway International Airport in Iperu, Ogun State, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025.

They were no doubt impressed by the rapid and high-quality execution of the airport project led by Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun. 

The visit included a detailed tour of the airport facilities by Airport Manager Captain Dapo Olumide, who highlighted the advanced technology installed, including the control tower, meteorological garden, and the four-kilometer runway, arguably the longest in Nigeria. 

He as a matter of fact, took the media team through the entire process from the beginning to end and reiterated that most of the equipment installed at the airport is of the most advanced technology, the kind most of the government officials on the team echoed that truly, is hardly found in Nigerian airports.

Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Akinsanya, and his Transportation counterpart, Mr. Gbenga Dairo additionally provided more insights into the success story.

The media leaders also toured the nearby Customs Village. 

The airport is seen as a significant aerotropolis that will complement Lagos and Ibadan airports and boost economic development in Ogun State and Nigeria.
