Taiwo Awoniyi cheered by Nottingham Forest fans on emotional return to City Ground

Taiwo Awoniyi made a heartwarming return to the City Ground this evening, stepping onto the pitch to the thunderous applause of Nottingham Forest supporters.

The Nigerian striker, who recently underwent emergency surgery for a serious abdominal injury, was present to support his team during their crucial final match of the season against Chelsea.

Awoniyi suffered the injury after a collision with a goalpost during Forest’s 2-2 draw with Leicester City two weeks ago. He required two operations to repair internal damage and was placed in an induced coma to aid his recovery.

His appearance at the stadium marked his first public outing since the incident, and as he entered the field, Forest players paused their warm-up to acknowledge their teammate’s resilience.

The emotional welcome from fans and teammates highlighted the strong bond Awoniyi has built with the club and its supporters.

Although not included in the matchday squad, his presence was a boost for Forest as they aimed for a victory to keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive
