An Air India flight traveling from Phuket, Thailand, to New Delhi was compelled to make an emergency landing on Friday, June 13, 2025, shortly after takeoff due to a bomb threat discovered onboard, according to the Thai Airports Authority.
The Airbus A320, carrying 156 passengers, turned back over the Andaman Sea and circled several times before safely landing back at Phuket International Airport.
The pilot alerted air traffic control after a crew member found a note with a suspected bomb threat in the aircraft’s lavatory.
Following the emergency landing, all passengers were evacuated in accordance with safety protocols, and explosive ordnance disposal teams conducted thorough searches of the plane but found no explosives.
This incident occurred just one day after a tragic crash involving another Air India flight bound for London, which crashed shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, India, killing at least 265 people onboard and on the ground.
The recent events have intensified scrutiny on Air India’s safety measures and raised concerns about security threats faced by Indian airlines.
Authorities continue to investigate the source of the bomb threat while ensuring the safety of passengers and crew. The flight is expected to resume its journey to New Delhi once cleared by security officials.
