Senator Remi Tinubu, wife of President Bola Tinubu, has been honored with the prestigious chieftaincy title of “Ugosimba 1 of Enugu” by traditional rulers in Enugu State.
The title, meaning “Jewel of Empowerment” in Igbo, recognizes her outstanding contributions to women’s empowerment and social development across Nigeria.
The title was conferred during her two-day working visit to Enugu, in a vibrant ceremony attended by political figures, women’s organizations, traditional leaders, and members of the public. The event celebrated her impactful initiatives aimed at improving the lives of women and vulnerable groups nationwide.
During her visit, the First Lady urged traditional rulers to support her advocacy against cervical cancer, tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS, and female genital mutilation, emphasizing the importance of collective leadership in advancing the health and welfare of all Nigerians regardless of political differences.
She also highlighted upcoming programs under her Renewed Hope initiative, including “Flow with Confidence,” which ensures adolescent girls do not miss school due to menstruation, and the Environment Club/Society, designed to engage students in environmental restoration efforts.
Chairman of the Enugu State Traditional Council, His Royal Highness Samuel Asadu, praised the eradication of unsafe cultural practices in the state and commended the dedication of both President Tinubu and the First Lady to national progress.
This honor follows President Tinubu’s own recent chieftaincy title in Anambra State, underscoring the couple’s growing recognition for their leadership and service to Nigeria
