BREAKING: Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, dies at 90 just days after birthday

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has passed away, joining the ranks of his ancestors.

Oba Olakulehin, who ascended the throne in July 2024, died in the early hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, after reigning for just one year, according to a report by Tribune Online.

Born on July 5, 1935, the monarch’s death comes only two days after he celebrated his 90th birthday.

Tribune Online reports that Oba Olakulehin was officially installed as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland on July 12, 2024, when he received the staff of office from Oyo State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

He rose to the throne from the prestigious chieftaincy position of Balogun Olubadan, succeeding Oba (Dr.) Moshood Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, who passed away on March 14, 2024, at the age of 81.
