The Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) Standing Committee proudly announces the 3rd edition of the Lateef Jakande Memorial Lecture, set to take place on July 23, 2025.

This prestigious annual event honors the legacy of Alhaji Lateef Jakande, renowned former governor of Lagos State, distinguished journalist, and former NGE President.

This year’s lecture centers on the theme: “Journalism and the Challenge of Nation-Building in a Multi-Ethnic Society.”

The keynote address will be delivered by Senator Bala Mohammed, CON, Governor of Bauchi State, at the Edmark D’Podium International Event Center in Ikeja, Lagos. The event will be chaired by Prince Dapo Abiodun, Governor of Ogun State.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu will serve as the Special Guest of Honor, while the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mallam Mohammed Idris, will grace the occasion as Guest of Honor.

The lecture series aims to celebrate Alhaji Jakande's remarkable contributions to journalism, public service, and governance. His legacy serves as a model for future generations, and we are proud to continue this tradition,” a press release co-signed by Messrs Eze Anaba, President and Onuoha Ukeh, General Secretary of the NGE, said.

The lecture series began in 2023 with a paper delivered by Chief Felix Adenaike, Fellow of NGE, and continued in 2024 with Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of This Day/Arise TV, delivering on the theme "Rapidly Changing Media Landscape: Survival Strategies."

This year’s edition, no doubt, promises to be a thought-provoking platform on the vital role of journalism in fostering unity and progress in Nigeria’s diverse society.

“We look forward to another insightful discussion on the challenges and opportunities in nation-building through journalism,” the press release concluded.
