Dr. Timileyin Oluseyi, a Nigerian physician training in the United States, has achieved an extraordinary milestone that has ignited pride throughout Nigeria and the global Black community.
At his medical residency graduation, Oluseyi made history by claiming all eight of the program’s highest honors - an unprecedented achievement in the institution’s entire history.
Not only did he become the first Black resident to accomplish such a clean sweep, but he also outperformed every peer across all critical evaluation areas, setting a new standard of excellence.
In a viral video, and as reported by Vanguard Newspaper, the program’s director and department chairman were seen honoring him with a traditional Yoruba gesture: prostrating flat on the floor.
The act, rooted in Yoruba culture as a symbol of deep respect, was reportedly the result of deliberate research by the institution’s leadership.
According to a faculty member, “The chairman said, ‘We’ve never seen anything like this. He raised the bar for this program forever.’
