The late Muhammadu Buhar |
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to immediately travel to the United Kingdom to accompany the body of former President Muhammadu Buhari back to Nigeria.
President Tinubu made this decision following the passing of his predecessor, who died today in London at approximately 4:30 pm after a prolonged illness.
A State House press statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information & Strategy, states that the President has personally spoken to Mrs. Aishat Buhari, the widow of the late President, offering his heartfelt condolences and support during this difficult time.
It also disclosed that in honor of the former leader, President Tinubu has ordered that all national flags be flown at half-staff as a mark of respect.
Muhammadu Buhari served as Nigeria’s President after being elected in 2015 and re-elected in 2023.
He previously led the nation as military head of state from January 1984 to August 1985.
