WAFCON ‘25: Spectacular late winner seals Nigeria’s quarterfinal spot in Casablanca


In a thrilling encounter at the 2025 Women’s African Cup of Nations in Morocco, the Super Falcons of Nigeria edged past a resilient Botswana side 1-0 in Casablanca. 

The victory, secured by Chinwendu Ihezuo’s late strike, ensured Nigeria’s progression to the quarterfinals with six points in the group.

Botswana showed great spirit and matched Nigeria’s intensity throughout the match, creating an exciting and competitive contest. 

However, Ihezuo, who has now scored in two consecutive games, proved to be the difference-maker once again, delivering a crucial goal that kept Nigeria’s campaign on track.

With this win, Nigeria will face Algeria in their final group stage match, aiming to maintain their momentum and secure top spot in the group. 

The Super Falcons’ determination and resilience continue to inspire as they chase continental glory on Moroccan soil.
