It is with profound sadness that the Board, Management, and Staff of Zik FM 96.3 Radio, Umuahia, announce the passing of their cherished Head of Station, Comrade Ozioma Onwuka-Okereke.
The veteran journalist and broadcaster, known for her outstanding dedication and influential voice, was said to have died on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.”
Comrade Ozioma was far more than a leader - she was the heart and soul of Zik FM. Her unwavering professionalism, nurturing mentorship, and motherly care inspired a culture of excellence that will endure at the station.
Her legacy is one of strength, passion, and commitment to quality journalism.
This message was conveyed in a press release signed by Isaac Okorafor, Chairman and CEO of Zik FM 96.3, Umuahia.
“She brought vibrancy, discipline, and warmth into the newsroom and studios, ensuring that our station lived up to its mandate of informing, educating, and entertaining the public with credibility,” the press release states further, adding that her illustrious career spanned decades of outstanding service to the journalism profession.
The statement reads further: “She held various positions in the NUJ and NAWOJ where she championed the rights and welfare of journalists, especially women in the media. Her legacy is etched in the lives she touched, the voices she nurtured, and the integrity she upheld.
“Her sudden departure has created a vacuum that will be very difficult to fill, both in our station and in the wider media landscape. We, at Zik FM, will remember her as a mentor, leader, and strong family member.
“We extend our deep condolences to her young children, family, colleagues in NUJ and NAWOJ, and the wider journalism confraternity. May her soul rest in perfect peace, and may her memories continue to inspire us.”
