The late Chief Audu Ogbeh
In a mournful announcement on Saturday morning, the family of Chief Audu Ogbeh, a former three-time minister, confirmed his passing at the age of 78.
The family’s statement said, “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, and grandfather; Chief Audu Ogbeh. He passed away peacefully on the 9th of August 2025.”
Known for his integrity, dedication, and service to the nation, Ogbeh leaves behind a legacy that has touched many lives across Nigeria. The family expressed gratitude to friends, colleagues, and well-wishers for their prayers and support during this difficult period.
Funeral arrangements will be announced in due course, and the family has requested privacy as they mourn the loss of their patriarch.
Ogbeh’s death comes shortly after the publication of an exclusive interview with Weekend Trust, where the elder statesman voiced his concerns about Nigeria’s future, confessing, “I’m scared of the future.”
His passing marks the end of a significant chapter in the country’s political history, remembered for his contributions and unwavering commitment to public service.
A former university lecturer, Chief Audu Innocent Ogbeh was a distinguished farmer. “He became a politician in 1979, when he was elected into the Benue State House of Assembly, where he was the deputy speaker.”
According to the Weekend Trust interview also, he later served as a minister three times, under Presidents Shehu Shagari and Muhammadu Buhari. He was also the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) between 2001 and 2005 under former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Ogbeh, who was the chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) until recently, has been a constant fixture in Nigerian politics.
