American rapper and singer Lil Nas X, famous for his smash hit “Old Town Road,” was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital amid reports of a suspected drug overdose, TMZ revealed on Thursday, August 21, 2025.
The 26-year-old artist, whose real name is Montero Lamar Hill, skyrocketed to fame in 2019 with “Old Town Road,” a global sensation that became one of the most-streamed tracks ever and earned him two Grammy Awards.
According to TMZ, Los Angeles police responded to multiple calls around 4 a.m. on Thursday about a “nude man walking erratically” along Ventura Boulevard. The individual was later identified as Lil Nas X, who was seen wearing only his underwear and cowboy boots while placing a traffic cone on his head.
Eyewitnesses told TMZ the rapper appeared “disoriented and incoherent,” claiming he was “heading to a party.”
Law enforcement sources quoted by TMZ said the rapper allegedly charged at officers when approached, leading to his arrest on a charge of battery on a police officer before being transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation.
“He was clearly not in a stable state, and out of concern for his health and safety, he was taken to a medical facility for treatment,” a law enforcement officer familiar with the incident told TMZ.
This incident comes just months after the rapper revealed he was recovering from a health scare involving partial facial paralysis earlier this year.
Fans have taken to social media expressing concern and calling for prayers for the artist’s swift recovery.
Lil Nas X, known for pushing boundaries with his music and visuals, has continued to command a large following among Gen Z listeners globally, including in Nigeria, where his songs like “Industry Baby” and “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” have topped streaming charts.
Authorities said the case is under investigation, and updates will follow once his condition is officially confirmed.
