Broom sales skyrocket in Enugu as Governor Peter Mbah joins APC

Broom sellers in Enugu State are enjoying a surge in sales following Governor Peter Mbah’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mbah officially announced his departure from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, bringing along his entire team of appointees.

The mass defection came after a prolonged cabinet meeting on Monday at the Government House, where the governor and his aides decided to leave the PDP. A video shared by Mbah’s Media Aide, Dan Nwomeh, showed the officials waving APC flags and enthusiastically praising both Mbah and President Bola Tinubu.

In the video, the group was heard chanting, “We are now in APC, Tomorrow is here; it is APC all the way; it is Jagaban all the way.”

The symbolic broom, the official emblem of the APC, has become highly sought after in Enugu. A field visit by a Leadership Newspaper correspondent revealed a shortage of brooms in local markets, with many new traders entering the business to meet the growing demand.

PDP members expected to join the APC alongside Governor Mbah are preparing to carry brooms during their defection ceremony, fueling the boom in broom sales throughout the state.

One local seller, Obinna Maduagwu, shared that he has been enjoying a steady stream of customers ever since rumors of the defection began.

“Honestly, since the rumor started, we have been experiencing a boom in our business. I have been doing supply, and I have been making serious money, I must confess.

“Many people have joined the business, and all of us are making serious money. I want more people to join the APC so that we will make more money,” he, among many others, stated.
