| Governor Douye Diri |
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has officially quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), confirmed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Daniel Alabrah, in a Facebook post.
Diri’s resignation also includes Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Abraham Ingobere, and all PDP members in the state legislature.
This move ends months of speculation about Diri’s possible defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), although the governor has not disclosed his next political affiliation.
The announcement, Newsmart gathered, was made on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, during the State Executive Council meeting at Government House, Yenagoa.
Reports confirm that Diri submitted his resignation letter to the PDP, with all members of the State Executive Council also stepping down alongside him.
Political analysts suggest that Diri’s move could reshape Bayelsa’s political landscape, with parties gearing up for possible new coalitions and power plays as the state braces for a period of heightened political activity.
