Nigeria’s vibrant storytelling landscape just found a powerful new voice. Nigeria LNG Limited (NLNG) has announced the inauguration of the Nigeria Prize for Creative Arts, a groundbreaking platform designed to elevate the country’s emerging filmmakers, especially those who wield the art of documentary.
Replacing the former Nigeria Prize for Literary Criticism, this award shifts the spotlight to documentary film, inviting Nigerian citizens aged 18 to 35 to capture the nation’s heartbeat through the lens of cinema. It’s an electrifying call to action for young creatives to narrate Nigeria’s past, present, and future.
Dr. Philip Mshelbila, Managing Director of NLNG, spoke passionately about the shift in focus recently.
He said: “Film has the power to engage young people like no other medium, allowing them to shape the future by exploring our culture, our history, and our present,” he said. “By launching this prize, we aim to inspire a sustainable future by supporting stories that spark reflection and positive action.”
