In a strong statement from the White House, President Donald J. Trump has declared Nigeria a “Country of Particular Concern” due to what he described as escalating violence against Christians in the country.
The US President cited alarming figures, noting that thousands of Christians are being killed, attributing the attacks mainly to radical Islamist groups.
Trump made the announcement on Friday, October 31, 2025, in a post on his Truth Social platform, which was later shared on the official White House X (formerly Twitter) handle.
Speaking out on the crisis, President Trump emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating that when mass slaughter like this occurs, immediate action is necessary.
According to him, statistics indicate that of the 4,476 Christians killed worldwide, 3,100 deaths occurred in Nigeria alone, underscoring the gravity of the persecution there.
To this effect, the US President said he has tasked Congressman Riley Moore, House Appropriations Committee Chairman Tom Cole, and the committee itself to thoroughly investigate the issue and provide a report directly to him.
He emphasized that the United States cannot remain passive in the face of what he describes as ‘these atrocities.’
“We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World,” Trump asserted, signaling a commitment to protecting religious communities globally.
Below is full text of his statement:
“Christianity is facing an existential threat in Nigeria. Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby making Nigeria a "COUNTRY OF PARTICULAR CONCERN" - But that is the least of it.
“When Christians, or any such group, is slaughtered like is happening in Nigeria (3,100 versus 4,476 Worldwide), something must be done!
“I am asking Congressman Riley Moore, together with Chairman Tom Cole and the House Appropriations Committee, to immediately look into this matter, and report back to me.
“The United States cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening in Nigeria, and numerous other Countries. We stand ready, willing, and able to save our Great Christian population around the World!”
