President Bola Tinubu has officially asked the Senate to approve the recently appointed service chiefs, seeking their confirmation to bolster Nigeria’s security architecture.
The request was read on the Senate floor today, Tuesday, October 28, 2025, by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
The nominees include Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Army Chief, Major-General Waheedi Shaibu; Naval Chief, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas; Air Force Chief, Air Vice Marshal Kennedy Aneke; and Defence Intelligence Chief, Major-General Emmanuel Undiendeye.
Akpabio announced that the Senate would refer the candidates to the Committee of the Whole for screening and subsequent confirmation next week.
This development follows a private meeting earlier Monday between President Tinubu and the newly appointed service chiefs at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
