Afrobeat icon Burna Boy, born Damini Ogulu, has once again raised the bar for Nigerian artists, making history as the first from his country to grab five Grammy nominations in album categories.
His latest release, No Sign of Weakness (2025), secured a nomination for Best Global Music Album at the upcoming 2026 Grammy Awards, placing him in a star-studded lineup that includes Siddhant Bhatia’s Sounds of Kumbha, Youssou N’Dour’s Éclairer le Monde (Light the World), and Brazilian legends Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia’s Caetano e Bethânia Ao Vivo.
Burna Boy, known worldwide for hits like “Last Last,” also made waves earlier with a feature on Justin Bieber’s album Justice (Triple Chucks Deluxe), which received an album nomination in the 2022 Grammys.
His previous nominated albums - African Giant (2019), Twice As Tall (2020), Love, Damini (2022), and I Told Them (2023) - along with No Sign of Weakness, highlight his consistent global dominance in music.
In addition to his album nomination, Burna Boy also earned a nod for Best African Music Performance for his smash hit “Love.” He competes with fellow Nigerian stars Davido and Omah Lay’s With You, and Ayra Starr and Wizkid’s Gimme Dat, alongside Uganda’s Eddy Kenzo and South Africa’s Tyla.
With these latest nods, Burna Boy’s Grammy nominations tally rises to 13, including his previous win for Twice As Tall at the 63rd Grammy Awards.
These achievements underscore the unstoppable rise of African music on the global stage, with Nigerian artists leading the charge at the 2026 Grammys.
The winners will be revealed on Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
