The groundbreaking ceremony for the initial phase of the facility, valued at over N300 million, was led by Rt Rev Bishop Geoffrey Okorafor, Bishop of Egbu Diocese, Imo State, and proprietor of the school.
This project marks a significant investment in enhancing student accommodation and school infrastructure.
A statement signed by EGOGA Global Public Relations Officer, Mrs Ugonma Cokey, said the building of the modern dormitory is part of the Association's way of giving back to the school.
She also noted that the new dormitory is to ensure better security, accommodation, and environment for the students and to encourage more students to become borders.
The statement quoted the global President of the association, Mrs Ijeoma Enekwa, as saying, "If in spite of the dilapidated buildings, the students still win international competitions, there's no telling what they will do with good dormitories, environment and ambience.”
At its 2nd reunion, when it celebrated 60 years of the school, the association produced a compendium to raise money for the dormitory and also did a survey of the dormitory compound.
Other efforts by the Old Girls to upgrade their alma mater include the perimeter fencing of the dormitory area, to secure the girls.
Individuals, class sets and chapters built a signage and gate, wash bathrooms, toilets and a kitchen.
They also bought lab equipment, mattresses, water tanks, notebooks and other materials.
Recently, the North American Chapter of the association renovated a classroom block. Plans according to the press statement, are underway to equip the classes.
The statement further quoted Mrs Enekwa as saying, "Individuals can take up the building of a Chalet and brand it in their name or the name of a family member."
Meanwhile, plans are in top gear for the association’s third annual global reunion scheduled for between the 18th and 21st of December, 2025.
The reunion, which holds every three years, features the Winifed Hubbard lectures. The lecture was instituted in honour of Winifred Hubbard, the school's first principal.
The theme for this year's reunion is ‘Mentorship For Girl Child Safety And Empowerment.’
Members of the association include the first female stockbroker in Nigeria, Mrs Lizzy Ebi; the publisher of The Source Magazine, Dame Comfort Obi; the former first lady of Ondo State, H.E, Mrs Betty Anyanwu- Akeredolu; Hon. Justice Vicky Ishigugo among other notable figures from all works of life, both home and in the diaspora.
The groundbreaking ceremony was witnessed by some executive members of the association, including, Lady Barr. Stella Amamasi, Hon Justice Vicky Isiguzo, Barr. Ethel Echebima.
Others are Dame Irene Duru and Lady Kalaya Opara, the principal, who is also an old girl, her staff, and some staff and students of the school.
