Makinde vows to stay two weeks at PDP HQ for Nigeria’s democracy

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has pledged to remain steadfast at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Headquarters in Abuja, insisting he and his supporters will not leave amid a fierce showdown with the faction loyal to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.

Addressing journalists after clashes erupted over parallel PDP meetings scheduled at the same venue, Makinde emphasized that the struggle transcends party politics, it is a battle for the survival of democracy in Nigeria.

Police presence led to tensions escalating with tear gas deployed to disperse the factions.

Makinde warned the crisis within the PDP may worsen before improving, but reaffirmed his commitment to persistence.

“We are ready to stay here for two weeks if necessary to ensure democracy endures in Nigeria,” he declared, offering a message of hope to party members and Nigerians alike.
