Senate swiftly confirms Kingsley Ude as federal minister after strong screening

Dr. Kingsley Ude

The Senate has officially confirmed Dr. Kingsley Ude, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria from Enugu State, as a Minister of the Federal Republic.

The confirmation came after a thorough screening session on the Senate floor Thursday, November 6, 2025, according to Channels TV.

Born in 1978, Ude previously held the position of Enugu State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.

During the session, senators grilled him on key national and diplomatic matters, including Nigeria’s response to recent threats from U.S. President Donald Trump.

Ude reassured that President Bola Tinubu is handling the situation through diplomatic efforts, emphasizing it as “a matter of diplomacy rather than law.”

He also weighed in on the ongoing debate about separating the roles of Attorney General and Minister of Justice, noting that success depends on the integrity and independence of whoever holds the office.

Satisfied with his performance, the Senate approved his appointment with applause.

Ude’s confirmation comes shortly after Uche Nnaji resigned as Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology amid a certificate scandal.
