President Bola Tinubu has taken a significant step in filling key diplomatic posts by submitting the first batch of ambassadorial nominees to the Nigerian Senate for confirmation.
On Wednesday, November 26, 2025, Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced that the list includes three candidates: Kayode Are from Ogun State, Aminu Dalhatu from Jigawa, and Ayodele Oke.
Although they are alleged to be non-career ambassadors, the move marks President Tinubu’s initial appointments to ambassadorial positions since his inauguration in 2023.
Until now, the absence of ambassadorial appointments had drawn criticism from various quarters, adding pressure on his administration that is confronted by hige rate of insecurity and economic issues.
Senate President Akpabio noted in plenary that this list is just the beginning, expressing confidence that more nominees will be submitted in the near future.
The announcement represents progress in building Nigeria’s diplomatic corps and strengthening its foreign relations under the Tinubu administration.
