President Bola Tinubu has officially appointed the Nigerian delegation to the US-Nigeria Joint Working Group, a strategic partnership designed to deepen cooperation on tackling Nigeria’s pressing security challenges.
This Joint Working Group, according to the presidency, emerged as a pivotal outcome from a recent high-level Nigerian delegation visit to Washington, DC, led by National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu.
Mallam Ribadu will lead the Nigerian delegation as chair, supported by a robust team of senior officials from multiple government agencies, underscoring Nigeria’s commitment to collaborative security efforts with the United States.
The approved members are:
- Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar
- Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar
- Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo
- Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Bernard M. Doro
- Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede
- Director-General, National Intelligence Agency, Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed
- Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun
Ms. Idayat Hassan of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and Mr. Paul Alabi of the Nigerian Embassy in the United States will serve as the secretariat for the Group.
President Tinubu has directed the members to collaborate closely and diligently with their American counterparts to ensure the effective and timely implementation of all agreed initiatives across relevant sectors.
