The Director-General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Mrs. Zubaida Umar, welcomed the Argentine Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Nicolás Perrazo Naón, during a courtesy visit to NEMA’s headquarters in Abuja on Tuesday, December 2, 2025.
According to Manzo Ezekiel, Head of NEMA’s Press Unit, Ambassador Perrazo Naón expressed a strong interest in identifying opportunities for collaboration between Argentina and NEMA in disaster management.
In her response, Mrs. Zubaida Umar thanked the Ambassador for his visit and emphasized Nigeria’s evolving approach from reactive disaster response to proactive risk reduction. She noted that NEMA’s 2024 initiatives, such as early warning dissemination, awareness campaigns, and preparedness measures, have significantly cut disaster-related losses compared to previous years.
She further emphasized that NEMA has been working extensively at the sub-national level to ensure that no state is left behind in flood preparedness campaigns, community sensitization, and simulation exercises.
Also present at the meeting were NEMA’s Director of Planning, Research and Forecasting, Dr. Onimode Bandele, and the Director of Human Resource Management, Dr. Umesi Emenike, who both provided additional insights into the Agency’s multi-agency coordination frameworks and overall strategic direction.
