The Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has officially resigned from his position effective immediately.
In a letter dated December 1 addressed to President Bola Tinubu, Abubakar cited health concerns as the reason for his departure.
President Tinubu has accepted the resignation and expressed gratitude for Abubakar’s dedicated service to the nation. The President is expected to announce the new Defence Minister to the Senate later this week.
At 63, Badaru previously served as Jigawa State’s governor for two terms between 2015 and 2023. He was appointed Defence Minister by President Tinubu on August 21, 2023.
His resignation coincides with President Tinubu’s recent declaration of a national security emergency, with further details anticipated soon.
