The CEO of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed, has firmly denied reports that he publicly challenged corruption allegations leveled against him by Dangote Group Chairman, Dr. Aliko Dangote.
Dangote recently petitioned the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) to investigate how Ahmed funded his children’s Swiss secondary education.
ICPC spokesperson Mr. John Odey confirmed receipt of the petition on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, stating: “The ICPC wishes to confirm that it received a formal petition today from Alhaji Aliko Dangote through his lawyer. The petition is against the CEO of the NMDPRA, Alhaji Farouk Ahmed. The ICPC wishes to state that the petition will be duly investigated.”
On Wednesday morning, December 17, 2025, however, Ahmed issued a disclaimer rejecting any such challenge.
“I hereby state categorically that the so-called statement did not emanate from me,” he said. He added that while aware of the “wild and spurious allegations” against him and his family, he chose not to engage publicly as a regulator in a sensitive industry.
He continued: “Thankfully, the person behind the allegations has taken it to a formal investigative institution. I believe that would provide an opportunity to dispassionately distill the issues and to clear my name.”
In the petition, filed through a legal team led by Senior Advocate of Nigeria Dr. Ogwu James Onoja, Dangote demanded Ahmed’s arrest and prosecution for living above his means. He specifically alleged that Ahmed paid over $7 million upfront in tuition fees for four children across Swiss schools, covering six years.
According to him, the school fees were paid upfront for a period of six years.
