Again, Nigeria plunged into blackout chaos as national grid collapses!

Nigeria experienced a massive nationwide blackout on Friday, January 23, 2026, around 12:40 p.m., triggered by a sudden system disturbance on the national electricity grid.

Reports reveal that power allocation to all electricity distribution companies (DisCos) plummeted to zero megawatts right after the collapse, thus halting supply across the country.

Restoration efforts, it’s also gathered, are underway, but no official timeline for full recovery has been provided.

This marks the first national grid failure of 2026, underscoring the ongoing vulnerability of Nigeria’s power infrastructure.
