In a surprise New Year’s gesture, Senate President Godswill Akpabio has instructed his legal team to drop all pending lawsuits against Kogi West Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan and several other individuals.
Speaking at a New Year service at Sacred Heart Parish in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State on Thursday, January 1, 2026, Akpabio revealed he had filed nearly nine court cases against those he accused of defaming and slandering him.
His change of heart came after a powerful sermon by the parish priest, prompting the Senate President to embrace forgiveness and reconciliation.
“I had almost nine cases in court against some individuals who defamed me, who lied against me and slandered my name. But as I listened to the priest, I suddenly realised he was speaking to me,” Akpabio said.
He added that the message prompted him to forgive those involved, leading to his decision to discontinue all legal actions.
“Therefore, I hereby direct my solicitors to withdraw all lawsuits against them,” the Senate President stated.
