Nigeria’s national electricity grid has suffered its second collapse of 2026, and the second in just one week, plunging the country into a widespread blackout.
The failure struck at approximately 10:48 a.m. on Tuesday, January 27, per data from electricity distribution companies (DisCos). By 10:54 a.m., power output across all DisCos had dropped to 0 megawatts, signaling a complete grid shutdown.
Information Newsmart is getting reveals that major DisCos affected include Abuja, Benin, Eko, Enugu, Ibadan, Ikeja, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Port Harcourt, and Yola, all reporting zero load.
DisCos are collaborating with the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) and other partners to restore supply swiftly, with efforts underway.
