Nigerian man admits to murder of ‘Bright Young Star’ in the UK

 40-year-old Nigerian man, Adedapo Adegbola, who moved to the UK four years ago has pleaded guilty to the brutal murder of a 23-year-old woman at her home in Mapperley, Nottinghamshire.

Adegbola, admitted to a single charge of murder during a hearing at Nottingham Crown Court January 26, 2026. He had relocated to the UK in 2022.

The victim, Stephanie “Steph” Irons, was described by loved ones as a “bright young star.” She was fatally stabbed at her Mapperley residence in a shocking attack that has devastated her family and community.

Adegbola, who showed no visible emotion in the dock, is remanded in custody and scheduled for sentencing on 5 February 2026. The judge adjourned proceedings, with details of the motive and full circumstances expected to emerge at the hearing.

Police have not released further information on the relationship between Adegbola and Irons, but the case has drawn widespread attention amid ongoing discussions about violence against women in the UK.
