Nollywood actress Angela Okorie faces serious trouble after her arrest in Lagos on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 by operatives from the state Criminal Investigation Department (CID). She’s now said to have been remanded to the Suleja correctional centre in Abuja, charged with alleged cyber-related crimes, including defamation.
Lagos police spokesperson Abimbola Adebisi confirmed to TheCable Lifestyle on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, that the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Center (NPF-NCCC) took her into custody.
Filmmaker Ajemba Stanley revealed she was arraigned in court that same day and ordered held pending further proceedings.
Stanley blasted the case on social media, slamming it as a blatant abuse of power.
“You arrested Angela Okorie at mid night yesterday, flew her to Abuja as early as 6am, this morning you took her to court and the court remanded her in Suleja prison,” he wrote.
“So the judicial can work this fast? Tell me how you will sleep this night knowing fully well that ur colleague is in prison!!
“Angela will never forsake you, l am coming to Abuja to secure ur release. Lets learn to stop abusing powers.”
Stanley vowed to travel to Abuja to secure her release and show solidarity.
“Whoever is in charge of Angela Okorie arrest should let her go and approach a competent court,” he added.
“If you feel that Angela has defamed you all you should do is to sue her not using the Nigeria police to oppress Nigerians.
“I will be in Abuja tomorrow for Angela Okorie matter. Whoever is incharge should be careful because the human rights watch is watching you.”
While the specific details of the cybercrime allegations have not been officially disclosed, industry sources suggest Okorie’s current troubles may be connected to her longstanding and highly publicised feud with colleague Mercy Johnson.
According to TheCable report, the conflict escalated last year when Okorie claimed Johnson was battling “an ailment I do not wish on my enemies.”
She further accused Johnson of hypocrisy, alleging her public use of “church words” belied her true character and urged her to seek forgiveness from those she had wronged.
Johnson initially responded with a cryptic social media post addressing online vitriol before disengaging from the public dispute.
The police have yet to release an official statement detailing the specific charges against Okorie.
