Three Super Eagles stars – Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman and Calvin Bassey – have been named in the CAF Team of the Tournament for the just-concluded 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
CAF unveiled the competition’s Best XI on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, following a thrilling edition that saw Nigeria finish with a bronze medal.
Osimhen led from the front for the Super Eagles, scoring four goals and providing two assists as Nigeria claimed a record ninth AFCON bronze.
Lookman finished with the most goal contributions at the tournament, netting four times and registering three assists. His exploits earned him a place among AFCON’s standout performers for the second successive edition.
At the back, Bassey was one of Nigeria’s most reliable performers. The 26-year-old marshalled the defence impressively, helping the Super Eagles keep a run of clean sheets throughout the knockout stages.
The Team of the Tournament also features Senegal’s Sadio Mane, who was named Player of the Tournament; Morocco’s Brahim Diaz, who won the Golden Boot as top scorer; and Yassine Bono, who took the Best Goalkeeper award.
Other players in the AFCON 2025 Best XI are Idrissa Gueye, Pape Gueye, Achraf Hakimi, Moussa Niakhaté and Noussair Mazraoui.
Senegal lifted the 2025 AFCON trophy after edging hosts Morocco 1-0 in extra time in a dramatic final, while Nigeria sealed third place by defeating Egypt on penalties.
