‘Wike must go!’ echoed through the streets of Abuja as furious workers from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), backed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), picketed the National Industrial Court on Monday.
The bold chants and placards marked a dramatic escalation in their ongoing total and indefinite strike over deep-seated labour disputes.
The action followed an NLC directive throwing full weight behind the workers, calling the strike “justified” amid what it slammed as relentless violations of rights by FCTA management and its political overlords, Minister Nyesom Wike, chief among them.
Placards waved high at the court gates screamed grievances: “Wike must go!!”, “Abuja no be Rivers”, “Pay promotion arrears”, “Enough is Enough”, and “No working tools”.
These messages captured the raw frustration fueling the indefinite shutdown, with no end in sight absent swift resolution.
The development escalated to the point of the protesters chasing after the minister’s car who was alleged to have sneak out of the premises through the back gate.
