Arik Air flight W3 740 from Lagos to Port Harcourt was safely diverted to Benin Airport after pilots detected an unusual noise from the left engine, the airline confirmed Wednesday, February 11, 2026.
In a statement signed by Adebanji Ola, Public Relations and Communications Manager, Arik Air explained the diversion was a precautionary step during the Boeing 737-700 (5N-MJF)’s descent into Port Harcourt. All 80 passengers disembarked without injury.
“The operating crew heard a loud sound on the left engine,” the statement noted. “Arrangements are underway to transport passengers to their final destinations.”
Arik Air apologized for the disruption, reaffirming that passenger safety and well-being are its top priorities. Reports say more details on the engine fault are pending.
