In a bold move, Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has disbanded the State Executive Council and fired all Special Advisers, effective immediately.
The governor also named Mr. Onwuka Nzeshi as the new Chief Press Secretary, replacing Nelson Chukwudi, whose appointment was abruptly terminated without explanation.
The shake-up was announced via a Government Special Announcement from Port Harcourt on Thursday, February 12, 2026, signed by Nzeshi himself.
Affected officials must hand over to their ministry’s Permanent Secretaries or most senior officers right away.
The statement reads, ‘His Excellency, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, GSSRS, Governor of Rivers State, has dissolved the State Executive Council.
‘His Excellency, the Governor, has therefore directed all Commissioners and Special Advisers to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries or the most Senior officers in their Ministries with immediate effect.
“His Excellency further expresses his deepest appreciation to the outgoing members of the Executive Council, wishing them the best in their future endeavours.”
The latest development could be linked to the recent peace deal brokered by President Bola Tinubu between Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in Abuja.
This marks the third time Tinubu has intervened in the Rivers political crisis involving the governor, his estranged godfather, and pro-Wike members of the state House of Assembly.
Under the deal, Fubara is expected to submit a fresh list of commissioner nominees to the Martin Amaewhule-led House for screening and confirmation.
Sources say the agreement requires Fubara to include some of Wike’s loyalists in his new cabinet, while allowing certain sacked commissioners from his previous team to return.
