Nigerian heavyweights Burna Boy, Davido, Wizkid, Ayra Starr, and Omah Lay walked away empty-handed from the 2026 Grammy Awards, held February 2 at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles and hosted by Trevor Noah.
South Africa’s Tyla dominated the Best African Music Performance category, snatching the win with her track over a stacked Nigerian lineup: Burna Boy’s “Love,” Wizkid & Ayra Starr’s “Gimme Dat,” and Davido & Omah Lay’s “With You.”
Ugandan star Eddy Kenzo ft. Mehran Matin (“Hope & Love”) also fell short.
Burna Boy faced another heartbreak in Best Global Music Album, where his project lost to Youssou N’Dour’s Éclairer le monde: Light the World.
Tyla’s victory marks her second Grammy in the category - she previously triumphed in 2024 with “Water.”
Last year, in 2025, Nigeria’s Tems broke through, winning for “Love Me JeJe” against a fierce field, including Yemi Alade, Asake, Wizkid, Davido, Lojay, and Burna Boy.
