Abuja-based singer Ifunanya Nwangene, better known as Nanyah, was laid to rest in her Enugu State hometown on Saturday, February 14, 2026, capping a heartfelt week of tributes from family, friends, and fans devastated by her untimely death.
The 26-year-old talent passed away last month from a snake bite at her Abuja home, family sources confirmed, leaving behind a vibrant legacy in music despite not topping mainstream charts.
Funeral rites kicked off with a moving service of songs at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Abule Oshun, Lagos, filled with hymns and personal stories celebrating her life. A requiem mass followed on February 12, leading into a candlelight wake on February 13 at the Nwangene family compound in Enugu, where sympathizers gathered in solidarity.
Hometown locals joined for the emotional interment on Saturday, bidding final farewells. A thanksgiving service today, February 15, wraps up the proceedings.
Earlier, the Amemuso Choir hosted a special tribute, with speakers and performers reminiscing about Nanyah’s passion for music - blending classical, jazz, R&B, and soul - and her devoted online fans, who number nearly 40,000 on Instagram.
A University of Nigeria, Nsukka graduate and former choir mistress at St. Mulumba’s Catholic Chaplaincy, Nanyah also shone as a contestant on The Voice Nigeria. Condolences continue pouring in from music peers and social media supporters, honoring her infectious spirit.
