On the International Day of Zero Tolerance for Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), WAVE Foundation Africa reaffirmed its ironclad commitment to eradicate this harmful practice across Nigeria and the continent, standing in solidarity with millions of girls and women whose rights have been brutally violated.
Founded in 2016, the organization has championed the end of violence and exploitation against women and girls, with FGM elimination at its core.
“FGM is not culture – it’s violence. It’s a human rights violation, a public health crisis, and a profound injustice that silences girls before they can speak,” declared Lola Ibrahim, President of WAVE Foundation Africa.
She urged action beyond slogans: “Zero tolerance means enforced laws, informed communities, and protected girls.”
Over the past decade, WAVE has evolved from local advocacy into a powerhouse operating in community, policy, and international arenas.
Key achievements include sustained community sensitization and survivor-centered campaigns that dismantle harmful social norms fueling FGM.
WAVE calls on governments, leaders, and citizens to amplify efforts for a FGM-free Africa.
