The All Progressives Congress (APC) wrapped up its eighth national convention in the early hours of Saturday, March 28, 2026, in Abuja, decisively re-electing National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Goshwe, National Secretary Senator Ajibola Basiru, and 10 other key National Working Committee members through a smooth consensus process.
The event also featured successful zonal congresses, electing fresh leadership across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones and reinforcing the party’s unity ahead of future polls.
All officers secured unopposed re-election, save for the Deputy National Chairman (South) position, where Enugu State’s Dr. Ben Nwoye, a legal expert and former Caretaker Committee Chairman in his home state, ousted Chief Emma Eneukwu.

Yelwata described his re-election as a clarion call to serve, thanking the party for the opportunity.
“We are ready to serve, ready to lead, and ready to build the party - and the nation-together with you,” he declared in his acceptance speech.
He vowed that the National Working Committee (NWC) would not “fail or falter” in its duties.
The convention, hosted at Eagle Square in Abuja, drew top dignitaries including President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Assembly leaders and members, APC governors, and other key stakeholders.
Addressing over 8,000 delegates, Tinubu affirmed that Nigeria is on the right path. He acknowledged the bumpy road ahead but stressed that his administration’s reforms are essential steps to realign the country toward progress.
He said: ‘We knew rebuilding Nigeria would require courage, patience, and difficult decisions. But we also knew that no nation rises by hiding from the truth.
‘We are on the right track. Investor confidence has greatly improved.
‘Our oil and gas sector has once more become attractive to foreign investment following our reforms. Our Eurobond issuance was oversubscribed by 400%, and Nigeria has exited the financial ‘grey list’, marking a return to global financial credibility’.
He assured that, despite the recurrent power outages, better days are ahead, especially with policies like the Grid Asset Management Company.
‘I assure you, many of you lamenting the problem of electricity and power; we are paying attention to that. Electricity will become better, and we assure you there will be opportunities and progress in our industrialisation’, he said.
President Tinubu hailed the contributions of youths to the country and described them as not ‘only the future of Nigeria; you are our hope for a more glorious and assured future’.
