Falcons Roar Back: Crush Cameroon 3-1 in WAFCON tune-up

Nigeria’s Super Falcons delivered sweet revenge, thrashing Cameroon 3-1 in the second leg of their pre-WAFCON friendlies in Yaounde on Tuesday.

After a narrow 1-0 loss to the Lionesses on Saturday, the Falcons bounced back with flair. Chiwendu Ihezuo, Rinsola Babajide, and Michelle Alozie fired them to victory.

Cameroon struck first after just seven minutes, but Nigeria refused to falter. In the 32nd minute, Babajide whipped in a perfect cross for Ihezuo to head home the equalizer.

Before halftime, Babajide struck again, poking the ball past defenders amid a goalmouth scramble to flip the scoreline.

The Falcons sealed it in the 64th minute when Alozie timed her run perfectly, powering home a deft cross from Rasheedat Ajibade.

These double-header clashes served as crucial preparation for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.

The 2026 WAFCON is scheduled to be held from March 17 to April 3, with all four semi-finalists qualifying directly to next year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup finals in Brazil.

Although there have been reports of rescheduling or change of hosts, CAF is yet to communicate otherwise.

The Super Falcons are the defending champions and are drawn in Group C against Zambia, Egypt, Malawi.
