In a bold first move, Nigeria’s new Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Disu, has removed Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, just six months after his September 2025 appointment.
Hundeyin, who succeeded DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, worked tirelessly to revamp the Nigeria Police Force’s image. He drove trust-building campaigns, boosted accountability, and pioneered digital communication upgrades.
The shake-up hit less than 24 hours after President Bola Tinubu inaugurated Disu as the 23rd IGP on February 24, 2026, following the ouster of Kayode Egbetokun, who served since 2023.
No successor has been named yet amid the force’s ongoing restructuring, Newsmart reports
The Badagry-born police officer was originally appointed as FPRO by former IGP Egbetokun. He was also recently promoted, on February 3, 2026, from Superintendent of Police to the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP).
A seasoned police administrator and communicator, Hundeyin holds a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from Lagos State University and a Master’s degree in Legal Criminology and Security Psychology from University of Ibadan.
Over the years, he has built a career in police public relations and administration. He previously served under former Force Public Relations Officer and Deputy Inspector-General of Police Frank Mba, worked at the Zone 2 Command, and later at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
He also served as spokesperson for the Lagos State Police Command, later at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
