Uzoho grabs Super Eagles No.1 gloves as Nwabali hunts club!

In a bold move ahead of crucial clashes later this month, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has allegedly anointed Francis Uzoho as the new first-choice goalkeeper, sidelining Stanley Nwabali.

Nwabali, fresh off his Chippa United contract, remains clubless and thus unavailable as the team ramps up preparations. Chelle wasted no time turning to Uzoho, who shone as backup during Nigeria’s bronze-medal run at the recent AFCON.

Uncertainty lingers over Maduka Okoye, the Udinese shot-stopper, who, allegedly, snubbed the AFCON call-up after learning he wouldn’t start, a decision Chelle perhaps views as a challenge to his authority.

But Uzoho faces fierce rivalry from Arthur Okonkwo, the Wrexham star who’s ditched England for Nigeria. Okonkwo can feature in friendlies right away, though FIFA clearance is needed for big stakes like AFCON or World Cup qualifiers.

With the gloves up for grabs, Uzoho steps into the spotlight, but can he lock down the post?
