The Women’s Organization For Gender Issues (WOGI) an NGO founded by Barrister Stella Odife recently staged a resounding empowerment event in Abuja, bringing the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) theme, “Give and Gain,” to life through practical action.
In a vibrant gathering that celebrated resilience and opportunity, WOGI supported 50 grassroots women with essential resources to boost their livelihoods. Each participant received a piece of vibrant Ankara fabric and N10,000 in cash to kickstart small-scale ventures or meet immediate needs.

The highlight, which also formed part of activities marking this year’s International Women’s Day celebration, came for three young women who had already honed valuable skills but lacked startup capital. WOGI provided them with grants ranging from N100,000 to N250,000, enabling them to launch their businesses and achieve financial independence.
A female medical doctor also addressed the crowd on critical health topics, including glaucoma, other eye-related conditions, and cervical cancer, this equipping attendees with life-saving knowledge.
“We had a marvelous outing, one of our best,” said Barr Odife, a former deputy governor of Anambra State. She expressed deep fulfillment at the event’s success, saying, “It was practical empowerment at its finest, aligning perfectly with the UNCSW call to give and gain.”
The initiative underscores WOGI’s commitment to uplifting women at the grassroots level, fostering economic self-reliance amid Nigeria’s challenging socio-economic landscape.
