With full military honors, the fallen warriors were laid to rest at Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, drawing a somber crowd of comrades, families, and dignitaries.
The tragedy unfolded on April 9, when suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters unleashed coordinated assaults on troop positions in Benisheikh—a vital town in Kaga Local Government Area along the Maiduguri-Damaturu highway.
In an official statement on its Facebook page, the Army called the burial “solemn and emotionally charged,” honoring the ultimate sacrifice of these defenders.
“In a solemn and emotionally charged ceremony, the nation on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, laid to rest late Brigadier General Omo Braimah, Captain Ismail, and other gallant soldiers who paid the supreme price in the line of duty.
“The burial, held at the Maimalari Cantonment Cemetery in Maiduguri, Borno State, was marked by deep sorrow, honour, and reflection,” the statement read.

It added that the fallen soldiers were accorded full military honours in recognition of their service and sacrifice.
“Their sacrifice serves as a poignant reminder of the heavy price paid daily by members of the Armed Forces to safeguard the peace, unity, and security of Nigeria,” it said.
Among those in attendance were Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum, the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, and other senior military officers.
They described the deceased as patriots who paid the ultimate price in defence of the nation.
Prayers, according to a report of TheCable, were offered for the repose of their souls, while citations detailing their service were read before their families.
The Army noted that the grief of the families underscored the human cost of the country’s security efforts, even as their courage remains a source of national pride.
