The Federal Government has declared Friday, April 3 (Good Friday), and Monday, April 6 (Easter Monday), 2026, as public holidays to mark this year’s Easter celebrations.
Interior Minister Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo announced the decision today, Wednesday, April 1, extending warm Easter greetings to Christians in Nigeria and the diaspora.
“I congratulate all Christians in Nigeria and in the diaspora on the joyous occasion of Easter,” he said. “I urge Nigerians to imbibe the virtues of selflessness, forgiveness, forbearance, and love, as exemplified by the life and teachings of Jesus Christ.”
The minister stressed the power of national unity and peaceful coexistence, adding that Easter embodies the tolerance and community spirit binding the nation. “Nigerians should remain committed to these ideals for the progress of our country,” he noted.
Tunji-Ojo also reaffirmed the FG’s focus on policies driving national rebirth, economic growth, and shared prosperity for all.
He wrapped up with wishes for a peaceful, joyful Easter for Christians nationwide.
