The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has swiftly restored David Mark as national chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on its website, alongside Rauf Aregbesola as national secretary.
This update, spotted Thursday evening, follows a landmark Supreme Court ruling. It reverses INEC’s early April move to delist the Mark-led executive, which stemmed from an Appeal Court decision amid the party’s leadership tussle.
The rival claimants include the Mark faction and Nafiu Bala, a former national vice-chairman.
On April 30, 2026, a five-justice Supreme Court panel led by Mohammed Garba unanimously struck down the Appeal Court’s “status quo ante bellum” order. Instead, the apex court directed Mark to return to the Federal High Court to resolve the ADC leadership dispute.
INEC’s portal now prominently features the full Mark-led executive list, signaling a major win for the faction.
