Japan stamped their authority on Group F with a dominant 4-0 victory over Tunisia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, becoming the first AFC nation to score four goals in a World Cup match and recording the tournament’s largest winning margin so far (from the AFC).
The contest was barely under way when Daichi Kamada smashed Japan into an early lead, netting in the fourth minute - the fastest goal in Japan’s World Cup history.
That lightning start unsettled Tunisia and gave Japan the momentum to control the game.
On 30 minutes Ayase Ueda doubled the lead, finishing off a slick team move to make it 2-0 before the break. Tunisia struggled to create clear chances and were repeatedly shut down by Japan’s compact defence and quick transitions.
The visitors put the game beyond doubt after the interval. Junya Ito drilled home in the 69th minute to make it 3-0, and Ueda completed his brace with a powerful header in the 83rd minute to seal the emphatic win.
With nine goals conceded from two matches, the result eliminates Tunisia from the tournament and propels the Samurai Blue (Japan) level with the Netherlands on four points at the top of Group F, with goal difference now a key factor.
Tunisia have never made it to the FIFA World Cup knockout rounds. Their seven appearances since 1978 have all ended at the group stage.
Japan’s performance sent a clear message about their attacking depth and tactical maturity heading into the knockout race.
